Teaching

I view the classroom as a space of energy exchange between teacher and student. My role in teaching medieval literature is to be an improvisational guide, leading students on a journey from unfamiliarity to understanding. In my teaching, I emphasize the commonalities in human emotions and experiences across considerable temporal distances. The process of becoming familiar with a culture that on the surface seems so different from our own is immensely valuable, preparing students for future encounters with the unfamiliar in any cross-cultural context, and grounding their lives in a more multifaceted understanding of human life.
